Once I get back to civilization, then the videos will be more helpful. So for me now, reading, rather than watching videos, is the way to go. When I have time, I can walk to a place with wifi (I sit outside a building) & send a few questions. But the reception is so poor, that it reduces the resolution & I can't read the words & just have to guess a bit when watching. So at the end of the day, when I do Audacity, I use my cell to watch a video & my computer to run Audacity. For the summer, I'm volunteering in a national park where I have poor cell reception & no wifi at my campsite. It's wonderful to have all those videos for help, but for me right now, it's a bit awkward. It was the overdub that was messing me up. Don't hesitate to ask questions and I will gladly make another little video for you explaining the stuff I probably forgot to mention Just keep practicing and it will come smoothly. You are very close to getting this from what you wrote and this is the process (in the video) that I follow every time I edit. But to answer your specific question, you need to turn off overdub so you won't hear both at once: EDIT>preferences>Recording> at the top there is the Overdub box. I just don't understand how to record the new word cleanly. Once I have that, I know how to cut from new track & paste into original track & how to cut the old work from the original track. But when you record, it's also playing the original track so you get both words together. In the videos, it said to place the cursor before the word you want to remove, then press record & record your new word (which goes to a new track). As a side note, I know you usually replace a phrase, not a word, but this is just for practice. I've watched the videos, but I just don't get it.
